Tommy "beaudaddy" Mitchell - 2007
"Mitch" in New Mexico
I was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, home of some of the finest vocal groups to perform - Manhattans, Duprees, Spellbinders, Atlantics, Royal Counts, Heartaches, Mixed Company, Ad Libs, Vintage, Ronnie & the Hi-Lites, Charm, Choice, to name a few. Since 1969, I have lived in Albuquerque, NM. During the 1980's I managed two acappella groups from Albuquerque. One was a group of teenagers called the Caddies from El Dorado High School and the other was a group called the Doo Bopps (w/music James Piper and the Tweeds). They both had the same music director - Daryl Piper. Daryl also sang bass for the Doo Bopps. The name "Beaudaddy" was my on-air name at KUNM-FM Radio in Albuquerque. I used the Marquis song "Bohemian Daddy" as my theme song when I created a show in 1975 called "Hot Lix". The show was dedicated to the vocal groups of the 40's - 60's. The show still (November 2007) airs on Saturday Evening The reason I spell Doo Wopp with two p's ---- In many articles Gus Gossert is credited with coining the phase Doo Wopp around 1970. I attended the Classic Doo Wopp Harmony shows at the New York Academy of Music, the Royal New York Doo Wopp shows at Radio City Music Hall and also the Richard Nader's Doo Wopp Spectaculars. All my posters of those shows have Doo Wopp spelled this way. Even Ronnie I of the UGHA spells it this way.
